Starlight Ambassador since 2022
Proud Kamilaroi man Corey Tutt’s passion for science was sparked by a book given to him by his grandfather. So, when he learned that there was a remote school with only 15 books in their library, he knew how important it was to make a change.
Today, Corey is the CEO and founder of DeadlyScience, which provides resources, mentoring and training to regional schools across Australia, with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
To date, DeadlyScience has provided over 25,000 culturally appropriate books focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) as well as equipment like microscopes and telescopes to help inspire the next generation of scientists!
In 2020, Corey was awarded the NSW Young Australian of the Year award for his incredible work. Corey was named CSIRO Indigenous STEM Champion, AMP’s Tomorrow Maker and an ABC Trailblazer. His passion for indigenous education has also been recognised with the Eureka Prize and he was named a Human Rights Hero by the Australian Human Rights Commission. In 2022, he was awarded the medal of the Order of Australia.
Corey has authored two books, the 2022 award-winning best seller, The First Scientists: Deadly Inventions and Innovations from Australia's First Peoples, illustrated by Archibald Prize-winning artist Blak Douglas and the 2023 release, This Book Thinks Ya Deadly, featuring the profiles of 80 Blakfellas who are doing deadly things across sport, art, activism and science, through to politics, education and literature. The book is illustrated by Molly Hunt.

Corey has generously donated his time conducting science workshops in Starlight Express Room’s across Australia for sick kids. From making DIY lava lamps to bringing in traditional games for kids to get involved in Corey always captivates the kids minds and helps to positively distract them.
We’re thrilled to have Corey join the Starlight family as an ambassador and can’t wait for the next collaboration with him.
ABOUT: Corey Tutt is a proud Kamilaroi man and Young Australian of the Year for NSW 2020. He is the CEO and founder of DeadlyScience, a charity providing science resources, mentoring and training to over 800 remote and regional schools across Australia, with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Corey is also a board member at Science Technology Australia, where he’s helping develop their first Reconciliation Action Plan. He is also the Chair of Inspiring Australia NSW and sits on the National Careers Institute Advisory Board.
